MyStory_01

Welcome to My Story Monday!  Mondays are the day I invite you in and turn the camera on my life so you can see some of my family’s story!  Since I have finished my series on India, AND I want to make sure I am keeping up with YOUR blog stories, as well as my 365 project (which also let’s you into my life;-)) I am going to be posting “My Story Mondays” once a month from now on, and since we are at the 3rd Monday of the month, that is when you can expect a MSM blog from me:-)

Since this past weekend was Valentine’s weekend, I thought I would share a little about Valentine’s Day in our house, OR since it was mostly spent outside, in our family!  Usually Tom and I go out on a day OTHER than the actual holiday, as we like to avoid the crowds and expensive menus;-)  AND since he had been traveling all week, I thought it would be super fun to have a family day.  The morning was spent working on our house, (we do that a lot since we are building).  Then we decided to take an afternoon hike, and get AWAY from the house:-)  We invited our friends to go with us here.  BUT when we arrived the street to the recreational area was CLOSED, apparently everyone had the idea to go here:-)  We had the option of finding a legal parking spot and hiking to the entrance, and then hiking the trails.  We have kids, they barely make the hike on the trails SO to try and make it longer just didn’t seem like a good idea!  So we gave up.

BUT on the way home, I thought of another trail I had seen and wondered about, I didn’t have high hopes for this trail but it was better than going home, right?  I am so glad we tried it the boys LOVED it!  It included some bridges and lots of space to run, so they were very happy and we got to be outside!

Right by the parking lot there is a DIY fishing spot AND this “waterfall” It was a win from the first step;-)

I love capturing shapes while out and about, shapes that occur in nature and shapes that are manmade, and found;-)

The boys LOVE to learn, and Tom LOVES to teach them, they were especially interested in the water, the traps, and the different gates.  Tom is such a great dad! I LOVE to watch him with our boys:-)  The metal bridges were a favorite for Holden, and eventually Daniel when he realized they were pretty sturdy:-)

150214VAlentine150214VAlentine150214VAlentine

While we were walking I caught sight of our shadows trailing us on the other side of the canal:-)  So I yelled “stop!” and then “act like you are walking” you already saw this image here🙂150214VAlentineOne of the photography pages I follow is focusing on hands this month, so I am trying to capture them:-) I LOVE this series:-)150214VAlentine

After our time outside we came home, AND we ALL cooked dinner!  THIS is a big deal!  The kitchen is MY place, I don’t actually enjoy cooking with others…it must be some sort of control freak in me!  BUT I want to learn to love including my family in my cooking, and since it was Valentine’s day I thought we should try it out!  My boys LOVE watching chopped and would LOVE to help in the kitchen everyday,SO it’s about time I teach them.  I am happy to report it was SUPER enjoyable and fun!  And our food was YUMMY!  We made this as an appetizer.150214VAlentine

For dinner I made this in the crockpot, and then we made these biscuits! YUMM-O.  For dessert, which was never eaten this night, we made these.  They were tasty in the next few days:-)

150214VAlentine

Now why didn’t we get to dessert?  Well, with the hike, etc. we got started late and ate well after 7pm, which apparently was too late for our boys.  Lesson learned, bedtime was a mess, and we were all exhausted by the end.  I tell you this in the interest of full disclosure, I wouldn’t want you thinking my life is perfect and I do everything well.  Like everybody else, I fail, I get to learn from my mistakes, and my life is a beautiful mess, not perfection:-)

I hope you enjoyed this little snippet into my life:-)  In the end our day was fun, and the memories are ones that make us smile:-)  That’s what life is about. Thanks for reading!  Remember my next My Story Monday post will be on March 16th!  It’s an update on our house building!

Like MY STORY and want me to tell yours? Do you need new family images to tell that story on your walls, or in a book on your coffee table? Jody is a dear friend, with a SWEET SWEET family and it is always an honor to capture her family! I have captured them before, so it is fun to see how everyone has grown!  This year they have also had an engagement!  AND I get to photograph the wedding!  SO everything is EXTRA exciting!  We decided to meet at Veteran’s Park in Roseville, can you see WHY I love this park? 🙂  It’s so beautiful and has a lot of different spots to capture:-)  this year Jody went BOLD with the colors!  This may have been my most colorful session yet!  I love how the colors differentiate each person, AND how they pop against the evergreen of the park.

This year we had grandma and grandpa with us as well, it’s nice to incorporate grandparents in your images, a sweet touch and instant gifts:-)

Kniesel2013_06_Blog

These three, such amazing cuteness, and they keep Jody and Brent busy!  They are all the same age!  CRAZY!  And they have such a story.  These kids will have a lot to teach us as they grow:-)

Kniesel2013_41_BlogJody also has older kids, who are just as amazing…I LOVED capturing them!  They have all grown and matured SO much since last year!  And they are all beautiful/handsome:-)  Angellica was engaged and is now married, stay tuned for a blog about her BEAUTIFUL wedding!  William is a handsome young man, just out of high school when these were taken, and Samantha is a GORGEOUS young girl who amazes me with her maturity!Kniesel2013_58_Blog

Here they are, they were newly engaged when I took these!  keep a look out for their engagement session to come to the blog soon as well!

Kniesel2013_59_Blog

Of course the littles needed some solo pictures:-)  I mean we want to capture their personalities and cuteness!
Kniesel2013_65_Blog

And I ALWAYS, ALWAYS capture some of the parents:-)  I can’t have people going through life without current images of themselves together!  I get really sad when people tell me the only pictures they have of themselves together are from their wedding or before they had kids.  It’s so important in marriage to appreciate and celebrate each other and your relationship!  And having current images that you love reminds you of that!

Kniesel2013_101_Blog

Thank you Jody, for trusting me each year with your precious memories!

What’s YOUR story? Do you need new family images to tell that story on your walls, or in a book on your coffee table?  Are you looking at your kids and wondering, where the time goes, and how they got so big?  Do you want to celebrate who THEY are RIGHT now?  I would love to tell YOUR FAMILY’S story, and CAPTURE YOUR LIFE!   Send me an EMAIL, and we will grab a coffee and get to know each other!

Welcome to My Story Monday!  Mondays are the day I invite you in and turn the camera on my life so you can see some of my family’s story!

As I told you I am starting this series by writing about India.  I think it is SO fitting as a small team just arrived home from another trip to Chillakalu, they were there conducting a discovery and listening trip. They are hoping to listen and get an idea of how we can do our trips better and have more of a continuing presence even when teams are not in country.  Hoping to create lasting care, and just in general help in the best way not just OUR way:-)

You can catch up on Previous Postings Here:

Part One – Intro

Part Two – Travel

Part Three – In Country

Part Four – Clinic

Today I am wrapping up the India Series, with the last couple days of our trip.  Like those days, this post is bittersweet.  I was ready to be home with my kids, BUT I was not ready to say goodbye to the people and the place that changed my heart and my life.  I just couldn’t imagine not being here, and I knew somehow, someday I would be back!  Here is a glimpse at those days, through my pictures, and some words:-)  Thank you for reading.

Like I mentioned before the rooftop was special for us in India.  It’s where most of us would spend our early mornings, and have our quiet times.  Tom even used it to do his daily stretching:-)  I finally understood the power the roof top held, Tom had been trying to tell me about it for a year since he’s been back from his first trip.

1213_21_Blog

I loved watching the fields around where we were staying from the rooftop.  And capturing these images to take a piece of it home with me:-)  I was fascinated by the farmer tilling the soil with his cows, we never see this at home anymore, now everyone uses tractors and such:-)  The white cows are so beautiful, I didn’t see any other types of cows there.

1213_25_Blog

As we were on the rooftop, the girls started to rise, and get their morning chores done.  Soon they lined up for breakfast.  As soon as they saw us, there was a lot of waving and smiling:-)  What a joy to be a part of their days for these few days we were with them.

1213_07_Blog1213_17_Blog

THIS is the vehicle that took us to clinic that first day.  It is some sort of modified rickshaw…we saw a few of them around the village and in town.

1213_14_Blog

Travel in India just looks different than home, and I wanted to capture it.  I love this man with the bundle of wood on the back of his bike.

1213_13_Blog

Opposite the girls dorm from the roof top was the boys area, and where everyone eats.  Here are the boys lined up for breakfast, and a couple of our teammates checking on them:-)

1213_12_Blog1213_11_Blog

These kids stole my heart:-)  I am so honored to know them. They are so full of JOY and so loved in this home.  I am thankful for the work Ruth + Prabudhas do for them, and their community.

1212_96_Blog

Laundry in India, here it looks no different than yours, if you dry your clothes in the sunshine.  BUT, do you wash your clothes by beating them on a concrete pillar or a stone?  I am guessing no.  I spotted the boys doing their laundry across the field, and I rushed over with Tom in hopes of catching them in action, BUT if you have been reading through the weeks, you can probably guess what happened instead.

1212_77_Blog

Yep, you are right, they spotted ME and my camera before I could get to them, dropped what they were doing and came to me, asking for a picture, and wanting to talk with us:-)1212_86_Blog

Then some more boys who were playing near by noticed us, and we never even made it 1/3 of the way across the field to the laundry area!  Oh well, next time. 1212_85_Blog

Later that day I headed over to the girl’s dormitory to hang out with them a bit:-)  Someone in our group had brought candy, so the girls were excited, a camera AND candy!  They also tried to teach me some games, I am pretty sure they were old school playground games, but I had trouble getting them.  I need to go back and learn them:-)  It was nice just being with the kids.  This is Puspa, the girl we sponsored, she is so beautiful and sweet.

1212_91_Blog

This image is SO fun!

1212_90_Blog

Then it was time to head back for dinner, so one last picture.  I will cherish this picture forever.

1212_95_Blog

Everyone had a chance to spend some more time with their sponsored kids, to give them gifts they had brought, pictures, and to get pictures taken:-)  Some of these kids have been sponsored for many years so they have a relationship with their families:-)

1212_55_Blog

Before we came to India, some people in Dr. Lech’s office(and on our team) worked diligently to get donations, and RIGHT before we came, they got donations of children’s “cooling” (sun) glasses. Enough for all the kids in the children’s home to have some.  YAY!  It was so fun to give them out, and hopefully they will protect their eyes and remind them that they are loved.  These kids have hardly any possessions, they all fit in a small area or box in their dorm.  It’s quite a difference from American children’s possessions.

The smiles were so big as they tried them on, and some of the kids even “hammed” it up for the camera:-)

1212_38_Blog

The morning of the final day, we had time for goodbyes, hugs, promises of coming back, and well wishes and offers of prayers from the kids and volunteers, it was bittersweet.  Puspa taught Tom a friendship handshake, and I brainstormed how in the world I could go home get my kids and then bring my family back here for at least six months…what could we do that would be helpful, and allow us to just be with these beautiful and amazing people.  I am still trying to figure that out!

1213_33_Blog1213_34_Blog

After the kids had picked almost ALL of Ruth’s beautiful flowers to give to us, it was finally time for our final goodbyes.  As we got into the cars, and drove through the gates, the kids ran after us following yelling their goodbyes, IT.WAS.UNREAL.  Like nothing I had ever experience, there were many tears shed as we were leaving for the airport, and Tom and I were quiet most of the drive.

1213_46_Blog

These images are simply the scenery as we drove, I was grasping, hoping to take as much of this country home with me as I could.

1213_52_Blog1212_71_Blog1213_66_Blog

While we had been in country there was some political unrest in the province we were in.  It was a little unnerving to see the armed military on the roads as we drove, but thankfully there was no violence while we were there.  We got to Hyderabad, did some final shopping and eating, and then got to the airport for the flight home.1213_68_Blog

It was SO amazing to be home, but also SO hard to acclimate to normal life, especially at Christmas.  But our Christmas, was simple and sweet and definitely a view of some of the things we brought back from our trip.  It took me a year to process the trip, I am still thinking through the events and things I have learned.  I know I will be ready to go back soon, to learn more, but also to be reminded of what I may have forgotten, and to see those beautiful faces again!  I SO hope you enjoyed this look back at India.  Like I have said before I couldn’t have gone with out the support from my amazing clients!  SO Thank You!

If you would like to learn more about New Hope Ministries, which is where we went, you can go to their website HERE, IF you would like to donate to the current trip you can do so HERE.  THANK YOU!

At least a few times a year I LOVE to donate a FAMILY SESSION to a fundraising auction.  It is a great way to give back, as well as meet new clients!  So when Amanda called me and said that she had the winning bid on a session from one of these auctions, I couldn’t wait to meet her and her family!  The basket she bid on was a collaboration for my son’s kindergarten class, and included gift certificates for a couple stores for outfits:-)  It was a fun basket!

We decided to meet up for our session at Veteran’s Park in Roseville, it is such a beautiful park and I have photographed families and babies here before.  The “woodsy” feel and the option of open grassy land is always sure to please!  And it is beautiful year round, so that is always a positive!

This family is SO sweet and their daughter is full of personality, as always it was an honor to be chosen to capture their images.

This bike path is always a fun “road” to capture, and it’s safe;-)NeelyFamily_28a_Blog

If you haven’t noticed, I LOVE capturing the “in-between moments” AND this one is no exception, I just couldn’t resist this gaze at his wife, how many of us would love to catch our significant other glancing, or gazing at us when they are supposed to be smiling for the camera;-)

Obviously their daughter is NOT a fan of the kiss:-)

Speaking of this sweet girl, she was a joy to capture!  And honestly a joy to be around, she made us laugh, helped make her parents comfortable, and was easy to capture.  She is beautiful, and spunky!  A combination I love.
