MyStory_01

Welcome to My Story Monday!  Mondays are the day I invite you in and turn the camera on my life so you can see some of my family’s story!  This Monday is about other photography I do when I am not capturing family stories.

My brother-in-law is a talented landscape designer, and his business Verde Creations does beautiful work!  Occasionally they ask me to capture a landscape for them, for portfolio, or print work.  And of course I always say “Yes!”  Tom’s sister Beth is my most beloved assistant, so this is a way to say thank you back:-)

This particular project is in Auburn, in Christian Valley, I love how they combined the natural environment with the landscaping.  Japanese Maples are some of my favorite trees, I love their color and beautiful forms.

A short but fun post, I love to help Verde out, and practice some non-portrait landscape photography!  Thanks for reading My Story Monday!

I have been capturing this family since before little baby J was born!  Stacey contacted me to do a maternity and a baby’s first year session…and I have had the privilege of capturing their family portraits since then!  Every year I cannot believe how big the boys have gotten.  I LOVE letting them run around and be crazy:-)  It’s like having a session with my own boys!  Last year we had fun in Old Town Sacramento by the Trains, this year we went to a park in Lincoln.  I had never photographed there and it is a SUPER great park with water, swings, big trees and views!  We will be back!

While Stacey and I talked through the final details the boys played on the playground…2013Bierer_04a_Blog

THIS family is too cute!  They always coordinate without being too matchy-matchy!  It was CRAZY windy this day, I couldn’t believe it!  While we got no rain, we definitely had the makings of a storm, and these two boys and their parents soldiered on!

2013Bierer_10_Blog2013Bierer_21_Blog2013Bierer_27_BlogThis guy…according to mama is:

sweet, caring, a follower of his brother, cautious, has the best smile 🙂2013Bierer_41_Blog

is smart, generous, carefree, shy, and adventurous!2013Bierer_51_Blog

Together they are brothers, a team…a precious duo.

We promised the kids after we explored the park, and grabbed some pictures they could swing:-)  What a fun way to end a session! Thank you Bierer family for trusting me with your family’s memories!

This month, February, included holidays, time off of school, and staying MOTIVATED to pick up the camera.  There are no themes other than this is our life and I LOVE it:-) Included in our life is the journey of building a house!  Somedays it’s exciting and others it’s just HARD, but over the past years I have been learning to embrace and find JOY in the Messy Life that is ours:-)

My favorite images of this month are:

365_41365_38365_56_Blog365_57_Blog365_58_Blog365_59_Blog

I love that these five images show personality, and our life, but as I look back at them, I can already see how this project is causing me to see differently, and notice the beauty in the moment, and in the mundane. As I look back on the last two month I am SO excited for what the rest of the year will bring!  I have submitted images to theme’s of the week and month, and have had the honor of images being featured amongst the work of some fabulous photographers!

Please enjoy a look through the rest of the month:-)  You can also see previous weeks HERE

  • So Nia - Love to your pictures – they are so fresh and crisp and I can’t wait to see the development of your new home as well! Really really loving your work!ReplyCancel

Angie + Charlie are engaged!  I may have mentioned that in Angie’s family portrait post😉  I was SO excited to capture their wedding, it will be my first!  A+C wanted Engagement photos for save the dates, and newspaper announcements, wedding decorations, etc.  I was excited to work with them as a couple before the wedding, which puts both parties at ease for the big day!  After chatting about the couple we talked locations.  They knew they wanted to be outside somewhere beautiful, and Charlie came up with the PERFECT location:-)  It is a private school campus in Colfax, CA, a place he attended, so he knew the area well;-)

We met, chatted some more, and then I let them wander and hang out, with a little direction of course:-) But, they are a couple in love…It’s easy to capture that!

“Whisper something sweet in her ear”, remember what it was like when you fell in love, it’s the sweetest…

I LOVED all the trees at this site!  Angie perfectly coordinated their outfits with the surroundings, and with who they are.  I loved the vintage feel with the early evening light!2013Engagement34_Blog2013Engagement40_Blog2013Engagement73_Blog

This couple LOVES to dance, that’s how they met, and how they shall be:-)  I LOVED how their smiles grew when they forgot I was there and just interacted with each other!  I also was quite excited when I realized there would be a lot of DANCING at the wedding!  A+C both come from families with many siblings, many generations of families with many siblings…it is sweet how their community is so intertwined with their families.  They “may” have already been talking about when they start their own family;-2013Engagement78_Blog2013Engagement47_Blog

I think I could capture couples in love all.day.every.day.  Young LOVE is so fun, sweet, and full of excitement!  A+C loved sharing their plans for the wedding, for life, and for family throughout our time together!  I left knowing more about them and even MORE excited to capture their big day!  We made sure to capture some “save the date” images and just fun “posed” shots as well as natural  ones.2013Engagement26_Blog

THIS right here is my favorite shot! I LOVE vintage feel, the timelessness, and the “suggestion” of two becoming one.  That’s what the “&” means to me.  Marriage is the joining of two lives!

2013Engagement93_Blog

I can tell you marriage is a BIG deal to me.  My husband and I have been married for 12 years, and it hasn’t always been easy, but it has been wonderful.  Marriage is a gift, each day is a gift.  That is why I feel it is such a HONOR to be part of the beginning of this couple’s journey into the next season.  This engagement lays the groundwork for marriage, and it is an exciting time!  Thank you Angie + Charlie for including me, and putting your trust in me to capture this new beginning, as you enter into the rest of your lives together!

My hope is that you will hardly notice me at your wedding, BUT that when you look at your album and your images, you will remember and relive the day you gave yourselves to each other before God and family, for today and always:-)  Marriage is REALLY fun too!

What’s YOUR story? Are you entering a NEW SEASON?   I would love to tell YOUR story, and CAPTURE YOUR LIFE!   Send me an EMAIL, and we will grab a coffee and get to know each other!

DeAnna and I have been friends for many years, we have done ministry together, prayed together, and shared our hearts through the years.  SO when she asked me to capture her family, I was honored!  We talked through what she was looking for, how she wanted to capture her family and where.  I am SO glad we decided on Old Town Auburn.  With it’s mix of the courthouse, brick buildings, AND mature trees, I knew it would be perfect!

This is seriously a SWEET family!  I just loved capturing them, and they were up for anything!

Something happens when you look into the eyes of the one you love, instantly you either laugh or get dreamy eyed, it’s something I LOVE to  capture and definitely something I LOVE to look back on myself.  Those hard days come, and in one simple glance you can see the one you chose, either in person or in a photograph, and at least for me it makes my insides smile :-131019Nellist_03_Blog

These two LOVE each other, the difference in age doesn’t matter.  They are there for each other, and Zi feels SO much more comfortable with her by his side 🙂131019Nellist_05_Blog

Lily is taking martial arts and was more than happy to show me some moves.  I was so excited to capture both her sweet and fun side!
