Last Fall I talked about venturing out into Modern School Portraits!  I am in LOVE with this type of school portraiture!  It’s a chance for kids to be kids, I have watched kids who come to me VERY nervous, stiff, and unsure simply blossom in front of my camera!  It’s truly an honor and a gift that parents would trust me to capture their children.  Kids who start out thinking I am expecting a “cheese” smile, and end up laughing or being silly and making me laugh.  I can’t believe this is part of my job!

The following images are some of my favorites from my very first preschool.  It just so happens it is the preschool both my boys attended!  I could have put one or two of EVERY student up here but I had to narrow it down so you wouldn’t get lost in the amount of gorgeous pictures:-)  One of the classes had TWO sets of twins!  I couldn’t believe it!  AND two of the classes had very close friend’s children! It was definitely a win-win day for me.

Modern School Portraits are an alternative to the Traditional School portrait, giving parents a timeless piece of art to hang on their wall, and give as gifts.  The images are captured outdoors in natural light and I take the time to capture your child as they are, capturing a little or a lot of their personality at this time, this year, this age.  This kind of portrait is near and dear to my heart, just as I use images to tell the story of YOUR FAMILYYOUR DAY, I aim to capture YOUR child in the same way.  Each child has a story, which is part of your family’s story, and I can’t wait to capture just a small chapter in theirs.  If you would like to have this type of school portraiture come to your school, Contact Me, I am now scheduling schools for Fall!

  • Wendy Burgan - I can not say enough about our school portrait experience with LIFESTOP photography!! I’ve been teaching for 30 plus years and I’ve never experienced an easier experience and had such AMAZING photos to offer my parents. Anna has an unbelievable talent in capturing each child’s personality. The children look natural and not “posed” as many other companies do. She spends time with each child, making them feel comfortable and in turn, gets the most beautiful shots. My parents were beyond thrilled with Anna’s work. I wish all schools offered portraits like this! I highly reccomend Anna and LIFESTOP photography and plan on having her photograph my classes for many years to come!ReplyCancel

    • Anna Robertson - Aw Wendy! Thanks so much! I am SO glad you originally suggested I do this!ReplyCancel

This month, March, SPRING officially arrived, and with it sickness! It was hard to stay motivated to capture life when I could barely get out of bed, or was taking care of somebody who couldn’t.  But, we survived!  I sure hope that this spring is a wet one!  We need the rain desperately, or else the pretty flowers and greens are going to disappear quicker than they came in!  There are no themes other than this is our life and I LOVE it:-) Included in our life is the journey of building a house!  Somedays it’s exciting and others it’s just HARD, but over the past years I have been learning to embrace and find JOY in the Messy Life that is ours:-)

My favorite images of this month are:

We have drywall hung!  One of my favorite things is to “walk the job” with you.  Watching the house take shape and dream about what life will be like in the new house, and the people we will welcome through our door.  The process is fun, and so hard at the same time, but I am thankful to be going through it with you:-)365_90_Blog

I love how these images let you see our life, our personalities and the beauty that I see and appreciate with my eyes.  I am thankful for the assignment to observe, capture and mostly be thankful for our days right now, and be challenged to see the beauty in the everyday.  I am SO excited for what the rest of the year will bring!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our life!  Now PLEASE go and check out Amy of Sticky Mangos Photo’s glimpse at her month.  Amy captures her family’s daily life SO well!  I love this group of photographers!  I am inspired and encouraged daily. AND don’t forget to check back next month as we post our images from March.  This year is going to be fun!

Please enjoy a look through the rest of the month:-)  You can also see previous weeks HERE

  • So Nia - Wonderful! I love to be a part of your housebuilding (in a a way) 🙂ReplyCancel

As I have said before, we always for some odd reason try to capture our family and my sister in law Beth’s family portraits ALL at the same time.  I think it’s so I can really get a taste of what stress a family portrait session can be on my clients 😉  AND trust me I always come out of it more determined than ever to put my client’s at ease and just capture THEM without too much direction.  That yields the best natural images, AND really the best experience!  Family Portraits CAN be fun!

SO back to Beth’s family 😉  You all know her as my lovely assistant, always laughing, inspiring you to run, throw leaves, whatever. The one who watches your kids or talks with you while I capture the others 🙂 She is my sister, my friend, and truly priceless to me!  And her girls are SO darn cute!

This year we met at their house, and then venture to the little downtown right where they live…It was a GREAT place for backdrops, but you definitely want some extra hand with the littles since we were on roads or in parking lots:-)  Beth is an avid gardener and always has a beautiful garden and plantings…I love this stand of grass and how the light shines through it!
2013Peterson_04_BlogAfter everyone arrived we ventured over to the small town center.  Where we found THIS awesome metal wall!  I was IN LOVE 🙂  I love the contrast between the girls outfits and the old weathered metal.  And the love these two girls share is precious.  MJ has always been a “little mama” to Miss A and their bond is so sweet.
2013Peterson_32_BlogTHIS is my fav… <3
2013Peterson_36_Blog“Little Mama” MAY be important, BUT nothing stands in the way of this girl and her “Big Mama”!

2013Peterson_45_BlogThis wall and plantings were AWESOME!  And fit in SO well with this family, as Josh owns Verde Creations designing and maintaining beautiful landscapes, and I said Beth is a talented gardener, and designer:-)
2013Peterson_52_BlogNow wait, THIS is my absolute Favorite! <3
2013Peterson_60_BlogBeth is a fan of the non-posed in motion shots, which I love…so we get as many just being a family shots as we can while we are out.

2013Peterson_74_BlogI wanted to capture the fall colors at the end…
2013Peterson_81_BlogWhile I was capturing the above shot, THIS was happening, I mean really…
2013Peterson_89_BlogAs I said, we always at least try to grab ONE entire family portrait, as well as a grandkid/cousin image for the grandparents 🙂  So here are the ones captured that include my family…
2013Peterson_09_Blog
2013Peterson_15_BlogI love this family shot!  It is definitely WALL worthy! 🙂 I love that no one is looking and that Holden is making a face.  And as I have said before, couples, look into each others eyes, you might laugh, smile, kiss, whatever but you will CONNECT!

2013Peterson_49_BlogI had Beth help me with my headshots…this was a practice round, we always have fun together! The End. Until next year’s session!

Modern School Portraits are SO fun!  I love giving parents images and prints that they LOVE and cherish!  Something different than your typical school portrait.  BUT I also know that families want to gift, and show off those portraits!  Which is why I offer A LOT of ways to display and gift these precious portraits!  I do offer digital packages with my school portraits, BUT I also offer more traditional portrait packages!  You know how I feel about PRINTING your images:-) (if you don’t just know I am a BIG fan, and it makes me super sad, to think about memories, and portraits sitting on a CD or Hard Drive and not being displayed!)  Anyway, I thought I would post some of my School Portrait print options!

These are mounted prints, anything over 8×12 comes mounted.  I LOVE how easy these are to display OR frame!

The following are the different packages I offer.  You are also welcome to order prints a la carte!  The prints are SO beautiful in person, and I LOVE how my approach to the portraits allows the children to SHINE without any distractions!

It’s an honor to capture a family through the years, it is an even bigger honor to be friends with the families you capture!  Katherine and I have been friends for many, many years.  Growing up and going to the same schools, AND taking the same high school photography classes!  She is now a local photographer as well, and I LOVE that she trusts me to capture her family portraits.  Last year, we went to a park, this year when she called, she was looking for something a little more urban, with some character.  It wasn’t hard to choose Old Sacramento!  With the brick buildings, alleys, train museum, and accessible stationary trains you really can’t go wrong!  Katherine, I loved wandering around with your beautiful family and capturing the sweet way you’ll interact.  Your love for your husband and your family is SO obvious in your life!  Thank You!

We started at some brick…2013Bass_21_Blog

These kids…they are DREAM photoshoot material, hamming it up AND loving on each other the whole time!2013Bass_23_Blog2013Bass_29_Blog

I love to capture husbands and wives on their own without their children, interacting…sometimes I even focus on the kids and let them get comfortable with the camera off them, so that I can capture their sweet natural way of just being with each other.  I happen to know that Katherine had the image below on her phone screen for awhile after, because I got this email after I delivered the images. It den’s get much better than this!

“Loving my phone right now xoxoxo

Thank you Anna. Dave and I so rarely take photographs together which is silly because we’re both hopeless romantics.  It’s just really special to have some photos that capture how we are together. thank you for giving that to us and not having it feel forced.”

2013Bass_89_Blog2013Bass_107_BlogLOVE! Definitely my Favorites! <32013Bass_123_Blog2013Bass_127_Blog2013Bass_131_Blog2013Bass_145_Blog2013Bass_154_Blog2013Bass_157_Blog

When Katherine first saw her images, this was her response:

I love them!!!!!!!!   🙂 It’s really hard to focus on anything that has even come close to bothering me this whole week, after looking at what beautiful, loving spirits my children have.  xoxo  🙂 Precious.
Thank you Katherine, for your friendship, your trust, and the fun of being your photographer ;-).  Until next time!
