This week started with a MUCH needed getaway!  We went out of town for the weekend with our friend’s and our kiddos!  It was SO needed, just to be away and not worry about the house for a couple days, I am SO thankful!  I ran, we ate well, and just relaxed:-)  We also had plenty of work progress on the house, milkshakes and a field trip! It was a full week!  I am SO thankful to be part of LIGHTBOX STORIES and be inspired and encouraged by them to continue to tell my story.  Being a family and lifestyle portrait photographer I “sometimes” focus on documenting other people’s families through pictures, prints, art, and albums, and neglect to capture the memories of my own family:-)  This year I am trying to make sure that doesn’t happen:-)  AND as I keep challenging myself and shooting, I aim to improve my storytelling images so that not only does my family benefit, BUT you do too! It’s win-win!  Thanks for looking at the images of my life and reading my story!

Don’t know what I am talking about?  Check out the FIRST SEVENTEEN WEEKS of my 365 project.

We had a little more than 30 minutes until our destination, one boy absolutely could NOT make it, so we stopped at this beautiful diner:-)  I took photos while they used the facilities:-)  Next time we might actually eat here!  I seriously couldn’t resist the truck in front and the pig on the sign:-):-) 365_121_Blog122|365

Our friends couldn’t wait to take us to the Shed, and it was EVERYTHING they promised. Wine on tap, Kombucha on tap, AND beautiful handcrafted food, cheese, and meats.  Plus garden and kitchen shopping:-)  It was a great afternoon!

The kids had SO much fun with their friends, they talked about what a great weekend it was all the way home:-)  Good times ALL AROUND!365_123_Blog124|365

One part of building a home, and being in the thick of it, means we are running around a bit, and eating out.  Sometimes it’s because we have an errand to run, sometimes it’s because I just don’t feel like cooking.  Tonight was special, we got them shakes, they were HAPPY!365_125_Blog

We got a riding mower.  I think Tom has ALWAYS wanted one of these:-)  The boys are quite fond of it too!  I am sure it will get lots of use!365_126_Blog

Today I had the pleasure of accompanying Holden’s class to the Maidu Museum.  We learned all about the Maidu people and how they lived.  We even got to paint our faces…the kids did at least:-)  I think they had fun!  I am SO thankful that I am able to go on these trips!  What a fun day!365_127_Blog

I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since my first Senior Portrait session ever!  Remember Gentry?  Well, this is Roxy, Gentry’s little sister!  I was honored when again, my friend asked me to capture Roxy’s senior portraits!  THIS is a special time in her life as she gets ready to graduate and head off to college! UNR in fact!  We met at the confluence of the American River, and hiked around having fun.  It was such a JOY to capture Roxy, she is a natural, and we had a lot of fun!  Her first outfit was PERFECT!Senior Portraits : Class of 2014Senior Portraits : Class of 2014Senior Portraits : Class of 2014Senior Portraits : Class of 2014

This is definitely one of my FAVORITES! Roxy YOU are beautiful!

After the river, we headed to a place that I knew had train cars we could use:-)Senior Portraits : Class of 2014Senior Portraits : Class of 2014

Then we headed over to the Auburn Courthouse.  I just LOVE this building and the surrounding area! It has so many interesting places to capture:-)  Roxy’s second outfit was GREAT too!Senior Portraits : Class of 2014Senior Portraits : Class of 2014

Another FAVORITE!Senior Portraits : Class of 2014

Since UNR is the college of her choice, we decided to pay homage to the next season of her life.  The Courthouse afforded a college quad-like atmosphere, that we totally took advantage of.  Including one of my favorite college activities…Reading in the quad:-)  Well, that and sleeping were my favs…but thats beside the point:-)

This month, April,  I have really appreciated the “boy-ness” that I am surrounded by:-)  We have also made more progress on our house, and it is starting to look like a house and less like a construction site!  I have also finished the Spring season of Modern School Portraits!  It was SO fun! There are no themes other than this is our life and I LOVE it:-) Included in our life is the journey of building a house!  Somedays it’s exciting and others it’s just HARD, but over the past years I have been learning to embrace and find JOY in the Messy Life that is ours:-) Since this month ended with a full week, instead of favorites, I just decided to add the whole week:-)

A storm was brewing outside, and I was brewing inside (sometimes stress does that to me), so Tom suggested a walk, it was SO nice, and I caught this view of the house, on our way back:-)365_114_Blog

Today I walked in the March of Dimes, March for Babies in Sacramento, with my friend and her sweet girls, in memory of her nieces, two little lives that were too short, yet they forever changed me.365_115_Blog

After the stormy days, THIS sky drew me in, actually, most days this view draws me in, and I find myself here, looking out, in awe of all God has done.365_116_Blog

You, my 8 year old, are a creator, an inventor, and a thinker.  You built this desk out on our property with scraps, and “trash.  You have done your homework out here, planned things and created, I love it.  We may have to find a place for it to stay. 365_120_Blog

I love how these images let you see our life, our personalities and the beauty that I see and appreciate with my eyes.  I am thankful for the assignment to observe, capture and mostly be thankful for our days right now, and be challenged to see the beauty in the everyday.  I am SO excited for what the rest of the year will bring!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into our life!  Now PLEASE go and check out Rachel of Seasons of Life Photography’s month.  Rachel is an AMAZING lifestyle photographer, and I love the way she tells stories with images.  I love this group of photographers!  I am inspired and encouraged daily. AND don’t forget to check back next month as we post our images from March.  This year is going to be fun!

The day was FINALLY here!  I was SO excited, and of course nervous to capture Angie + Charlie’s BIG DAY!  A wedding is a story, the beginning of your family’s story, and the continuation of your parent’s story.  I was EXTREMELY honored to be asked to tell the story of the day through my pictures!  You will remember the engagement session, and recall Angie’s beautiful vintage style, as well as the importance of dance in the couple’s life:-)  The wedding was such a reflection of who they are!  I will let the pictures tell most of the story:-)

Angie and her bridesmaids got ready at her house, while the guys got ready at Charlie’s.  It was SO sweet to witness the community that is this family.  They all pitched in and helped, and Angie was the calmest most gracious bride I have ever seen:-)140301_04a_Blog

The moment mother and daughter saw each other was PRICELESS.  This family is such a treasure, I am honored to be included amongst their friends.  On the way to the wedding, the bride NEEDED Jamba Juice, so that is where she went, all dressed for her wedding.  On looking children thought they were seeing a princess in real life ;-).  You are beautiful Angie, and even more so on your wedding day filled with happy anticipation of becoming Charlie’s wife.140301_46b_Blog

Angie + Charlie were married at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic church.  The church is gorgeous, and all the details were so PERFECT!  Jody was such a loving and helpful mother of the bride:-)  She thoroughly enjoyed her job, and was SO excited for the day!  The ceremony was sweet, and had some FUN moments, songs song, stories told, prayers offered up and some light moments:-)  And of course the KISS!140301_59b_Blog140301_94b_Blog

When your good friend asks you to capture one-year portraits for her sweet boy, how can you say no?  Mr. S has 5 older brothers and sisters, so he is not shy at all:-)  It was so fun to run around and play at the park, all while documenting this sweet milestone for his family.  We started off at a bridge, and meandered around the park for a bit, this session was taken in Fall (I know I am WAY behind) but that is why you see the beautiful fall foliage:-).

Ok, back to Mr. S.  As most One year olds are he is curious, energetic ad ALWAYS moving!  I LOVE this kind of session because it’s nearly impossible to pose!  So you get to run around and have fun. And it’s good exercise!2013Silas_01_Blog

ALWAYS have a ball with kids, ALWAYS.  Most can’t resist kicking, chasing, or throwing it, and Mr. S was NO exception!2013Silas_05_Blog

AND books!  Story time, or snack time books are fun!2013Silas_13_Blog

Capture what is happening around you:-)  Including siblings who are along for the ride, OR trying to get away with something while attention is focused on the little one!  Seriously though, Sara, your kids are GORGEOUS! I can’t wait to capture your whole family someday!

Grass, leaves and chairs, “might” stop a boy for a moment, but just a moment:-)  Luckily sometimes that is all you need!2013Silas_19_Blog

The YELLOW in this park is SO gorgeous as it’s shining in the setting sun!  I LOVE fall!2013Silas_28_Blog

OK I might have been mean, maybe I took ONE to many pictures, or MAYBE I took the car keys from him:-(  I thought for sure he was DONE with me! But luckily, mom and siblings were there to quickly distract and change this One-Year olds mind!2013Silas_29_Blog2013Silas_30_Blog2013Silas_39_Blog

Moms…they ARE the most fun!2013Silas_61_Blog2013Silas_81_Blog

And then as the light was waining, and the kids were tired of entertaining, we said goodbye to the first year and HELLO next chapter:-)  Thank you Sara for allowing me in, allowing me to capture your sweet little guy, and help you preserve this moment in time.2013Silas_89_Blog
