Modern School Portrait Event |Bring the Siblings!

Are you tired of purchasing school portraits BEFORE seeing them? Do you wish you could have images of your children you LOVE, images that capture their personality, and life! Me too! That is why I started offering MODERN SCHOOL PORTRAITS. But, you may be saying, “You are not at our school.” And you are right, I am not everywhere, SO that’s why I am offering a Saturday MODERN SCHOOL PORTRAIT EVENT!

I am SO excited to be hosting this MODERN SCHOOL PORTRAIT event Saturday October 17th! I have had so many people ask for a chance for siblings to be photographed so that parents can have images they LOVE and that go together on the wall of all their children, and I really dislike saying “NO” to this request, so I decided I didn’t have to! BUT, this event is one day only! I will open my home, and set up the black backdrop, and capture your children, as they are, and we will have fun! Contact me if you are interested in this service:-)

I will be scheduling 10 minute appointments from 9:30-4:30 on this Saturday, and a $20 deposit is required to hold your place, which will then be credited toward your print or digital order. you can check out the packages and products I offer here I am SUPER excited to offer this to you! LIGHTBOX STORIES BLOG CIRCLE | SEPTEMBER | FAVORITE CAPTURES FRIDAY

This month, SEPTEMBER, was SO full and fun, with a side of real life thrown in! We had girls nights out(ok that was just me), new trees, business trips, school events, date nights, one last camping trip, and said goodbye to my beloved grandparents….And the month ended with RAIN! You will also see pictures of our home, epic sunsets, and just fun:-) I am LOVING capturing our life’s story, the good, the messy, and the boring, it is all part of who we are and where we are in life right now! That is why I am SO honored when I get to capture a snippet of your life, and stop time in the images I capture. So that years from now, or maybe just weeks you will look back and smile at who you were then, and remember to enjoy the beauty that is your life right now, even if it feels messy today! One last camping trip…no joke, it had been in the 90’s at home, we woke up the first morning to something in the 20’s, EVERYTHING froze. We even had a moment when Tom opened a water bottle and it’s contents immediately froze! Our kids couldn’t wait to get into their sleeping bags! Thankfully the days were sunny and warm in the sun:-) It was a great trip!

I have been meaning to photograph our spaces…but, you know we live here, so one morning I cleaned our bedroom and bathroom and photographed it:-) I LOVE this space!

The smoke from the fires is not fun, but it is a good reminder to pray for those who were evacuated and those who lost loved ones, and homes:( The plus side is it gives us these crazy sunsets and sunrises. We live in fire country, it is a part of our summers and early fall, I hope we get plenty of rain this fall and winter…so that this drought will lessen!

They go from SO much fun to crying and hurt so fast sometimes, it feels like it goes especially fast when I have my camera out! Light Saber fights outside, fingers smashed and the game is over. Don’t worry he is fine…was smiling and running through the house less than 5 minutes later! BOYS!

I had to capture this fog! It reminded me of how the fog used to roll over the hills in San Luis Obispo. We are truly blessed to live here!

For a little while now the boys have played on this hill, they have named “Death Drop Hill” BUT this past weekend our neighbor gave them this skim board, and since then they have been out here hour after hour, getting unbelievably dirty, hungry, and tired, BUT having SO much fun! I can’t imagine what it will be like once it starts raining! Bonus is NO FIGHTING, or at least they seem to be working out their differences on their own!

I love how these images let you see our life, our personalities and the beauty that I am learning to see and appreciate with my eyes. I am thankful for the assignment to observe, capture and mostly be thankful for our days right now, and be challenged to see the beauty in the everyday. I am SO excited for what the rest of the year will bring!

My Boys | Modern School Portraits

Last Week included Fall School Portrait day at my boys school. I was off capturing adorable preschoolers Modern School Portraits, while they were having traditional portraits taken. So when they got home I gave them their own private Modern School Portrait shoot! We had a lot of fun, even I got in front of the camera, you can see mine at the bottom of this post thanks to Holden:-)The beauty of these images is it is TOTALLY THEM, they have FUN, and they are not STIFF:-) And it really only takes me a couple of minutes with each child! Obviously my own are super quick too!

I love Daniel’s faces in these:-) He is DEFINITELY our comedian, keeping us laughing, even when we should not be encouraging his antics!

I LOVE Modern School Portraits because you get a few different images to choose from, and if you can’t choose you can have the whole collection. You might gain some for the scrapbook, and one for an art portrait to display, and give as gifts to relatives and friends! I am having a hard time deciding between these two here…But I am thinking the right is going on our wall!

Next up is Holden. He couldn’t NOT smile if his life depended on it! He is our learner, he will forever be learning…I might know at least ONE other person like that in our family;-) He has definitely entered the stage where he is aware of what people think. He wanted more direction with what to do, BUT I got him to lose up and just be himself, mostly by talking to him. ALL kids LOVE to talk, well…not all, but mine do!

This one…This is the wall art! I am excited to get these printed and on the wall! BUT I am sad to take last year’s down…They have changed and grown a lot this year…

I am often asked if I will/can do sibling images, I am working on a sibling Saturday, as well as a non-school associated Modern School Portrait Saturday, so keep your eyes peeled for an email if you are on my Modern School Portraits newsletter list, if you are not on it you can sign up here! Anyway, here are my kids “sibling images”. Before you say, “Aw…” and think I always get full cooperation and awesome shots…keep scrolling….they think they are funny!

OK as promised, here is mine Holden took:-) Processed a little differently, but I am impressed, I mean I am in focus, I look relaxed and like myself;-) He did a great job! I may have to train him as my assistant!

Let Them Be Kids | Modern School Portraits

My venture into Modern School Portraits, LAST fall turned into a busy SPRING season! And now as I prepare for this fall, I LOVE to look back at all the images from last school year. I truly feel blessed that THIS is my job! I can’t think of a better way to spend my days than capturing little people:-) AND some not so little! Of course I STILL love capturing Your story, and telling a chapter of that story in images, but I am truly surprised at the joy that comes from spending time with your students, and offering unforgettable images to your families:-) SO thank you for trusting me with your little one’s yearly images.

Sometimes, you have shy kiddos, and that’s ok. I have found that the teacher usually knows a friend, or a technique to get them in front of my camera, and then really your child and I do the rest! Sometimes, that means having them be my “assistant” for a while, AND sometimes, although rarely that means allowing them to hold their favorite toy of the moment! And don’t worry I still manage to lose the toy in some of the images;-) BUT it’s really about avoiding the “cheese” and letting them guide the time, so that it is about THEM! I mean WHO doesn’t like to talk about themselves! The following are just a few of my favorites from Spring 2015, expect more posts as we get further into the fall 🙂

This month, AUGUST, was SO busy! Oh my goodness! We had birthday camping trips, grandparents visiting, new school years starting, entered first and fourth grade,celebrated moving in, amongst other just everyday stuff! And the month ended with a special friend’s baptism, what could be better? I am LOVING capturing our life’s story, the good, the messy, and the boring, it is all part of who we are and where we are in life right now! My parents visited, we had a lot of fun! This month they celebrated 47 years of marriage!

We had our first dinner party tonight. Our long time friends, came and helped us celebrate moving in! Both families helped in the building of our house so it was extra special:-)

I LOVE a man who cooks…especially THIS man…love that he is willing to cook the recipes I plan, even when they are more difficult than others!
